To ensure clan administrators are responsible, only Extreme members may create new clans.
So, only people who pay for extreme are responsible? I understand that they might be going for the "if you paid, you're going to play" effect, but I think that statement is a less thought out than it could be.
I'm on a free account myself, but I can see where someone who has prepaid several months of service would stand to lose more than someone who plays for free. More responsible could mean that they could be held more responsible, as well as that they could lose more if they were irresponsible.
But I agree with your (implied) statement that this is more about perks for paying members. And hey, what's wrong with giving folks a good reason to pay, right?
No, I was just saying that it could have been written with a bit more tact. Seems a bit harsh to me is all. A site like this relies on us to pay for it once it gets out of Beta. Along with solid play, I would like to see a bit more of a sentiment of fairness to all players, regardless of whether they pay or not. I will most likely pay for this game once it gets a few kinks ironed out (more maps being the biggest one for me), but comments like this make me shy away. Just because someone doesn't pay, that doesn't make them less mature or responsible, and they could have phrased it better.
LOL, good point Deathcomesripin. It does sound a little harsh. There are many good and responsible free players. However, Kelmarim points out our same rationale for the statement and policy. Paying players have more at stake.
"Only Extreme members may create new clans."
Feels a little dry and sounds like its only about money.
Suggestions on a better line?
The BATTLE FORCES Team.
Honestly, I think your "only about money" line sounds just fine. I think most people do respect and expect that the highest paying players will and should get extra perks for financially supporting the site.
It's NOT "only about money", but a part of your strategy HAS to be making things more appealing to those who might be convinced to pay, from a business standpoint.
I just think that this site, and others like it, needs to attempt to state things in very neutral ways. A statement like "Only extreme players may start a clan." is fine. It lays it out, and if you do not want to pay to play as an extreme member then you can't start a clan. This leaves no room for any type of interpretation, and spells out in the smallest amount of words who can and cannot start clans. Paying players do have more at stake, and I think they should be compensated for it. But in no way are paying players more responsible just because they pay. I can assure you that there will be just as many immature little kids running around with daddy's credit card paying the game bills as there are free members of the same age. Anyone with half a brain can see that you can only support your site with money and would not begrudge you setting terms on the game to attract more income. I personally think it's a great rule, I just thought that statement was a bit tactless.
the priviledge of initiating a clan.
Question. What happens if a player goes extreme, starts a clan, and then downgrades again? does he stay as admin or does the clan go away? Also, what happens if he decides he wants to jon a different clan? does the one he made disband, or go without an admin?
Would it be possible to have clan officers appointed to manage/run the clan. That might help prevent clan death if the admin leaves.
Interesting questions peavy. Cut off the head and the body dies. Are you suggesting we should have zombie clans? I like it! :)
