I've started a new thread in which to keep the rules and results. Please use the other thread for discussion so we can keep this reasonably well organized. First, here's the list of players (scores will be added here as games are completed):
We'll set up 20 games. Every person will play 10 games and will score 1 point per game if his team wins. We'll optionally have a second round of 5 games played by the top 5 players as per comments in the other thread, but let's get through round 1 first. So we'll have games 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, and so on up to 10A and 10B. This way I can assign each of the 10 players to either game 1A or 1B and so on. I'm using random.org to generate 10 numbers between 1 and 2 to determine whether each person is in game A (1) or B (2). I'm doing that 10 times. After I generated the games randomly, I verified that each person played every other person a minimum of 3 times and a maximum of 6 times (which required trading players between the A and B games several times). You should play each other person an average of 4.4 times, and I wanted to keep the matchups as random as possible, hence the range of times playing other people.
Game Assignments:
Game 1A (allies win) Game 1B (allies win)
Game 2A (axis win) Game 2B (allies win)
Game 3A (axis win) Game 3B (allies win)
Game 4A (axis win) Game 4B (allies win)
Game 5A (axis win) Game 5B (axis win)
Game 6A (axis win) Game 6B (allies win)
Game 7A (axis win) Game 7B (allies win)
Game 8A (allies win) Game 8B (allied win)
Game 9A (allies win) Game 9B (axis win)
Game 10A (axis win) Game 10B (allies win)
Tiebreaker (allies win)
Finals:
Each person will play each country one time in the finals. Country rotation will be: Germany, USA, UK, Russia, Japan (in that order). Player order will be based on seeding coming into the finals:
The ordering of the players will then be: TigerPiper, docbrown, larche1976, Tashen, j35t3r.
Game 1: (axis win)
Game 2: (allies win)
Game 3: (allies win)
Game 4: (axis win)
Game 5: (axis win)
J35t3r and TigerPiper are tied at the end of the finals round. Per the instructions offered prior to the start of the finals, the tie-breaker for the final round is standing from the first 10 games. TigerPiper held the lead after the first 10 and holds the tie-breaker. Congratulations TigerPiper on winning the first Battle Forces Tournament!
Game created and invites sent out. Will update with teams once everyone joins.
Problem with my game - we don't have factories ..........
I'll try to get the game deleted and start a new one. I though for sure I had the right settings enabled. I must have forgotten to uncheck "No preset factories."
Admins said it would disappear after 3 turns in which no human players entered a turn. I've created a new game and sent out PMs.
Just curious.
we haven't even gotten the first game off the ground in the other bracket
Woodruff said he was dropping all his games and quitting the site. I'm taking him at his word and replacing him with William. I'll send William a pm and get him into game 1B so we can get it started. Once 1B starts, we'll try to get round 2 games started as well.
I thought I had sent you a PM to remind you to take me out of the tournament, so I apologize that I didn't. But yes, please do replace me. Thanks.
(I'm down to 18 games left now. (laughing))
I'll take his spot, if you don't have a substitute already.
We do have one already, but I'll put you down as a reserve in case someone else drops out.
sending out game 2b invites...i hope i get it right...

not sure if William is still playing. In 3 hours, he will be 2 days into no moves for one of the tournament games
bummer
is there a way to switch in ross for william? that might need to happen fairly soon
He did miss one turn in our game. I think he managed to log in shortly before the turn ended so he managed to not miss two turns. He may have just had a crazy weekend or something. Unless there is a great deal of protest, I'm inclined to leave him in for now. I think a good line is that anyone that deadbeats will be immediately dropped from the tournament and replaced (Ross would then start with whatever points the player he's replacing had managed to accumulate). Does that sound reasonable?
That's fine with me. I just wanted to make sure we still had 10 people active ...
and said he was still active but full for game slots. so he should be submitting turns, and we'll start his game when he has a slot.

- Sorry. This wasn't technically over already. I've been eliminated and the Axis will win in a couple rounds, so I'll leave the points up anyway.

We'll go ahead and send out invites for the second round so we can try to get the rest of these games moving.

Yeah. That was game 2A. I jumped the gun a bit on entering results since I was the first one eliminated, and I put down that you guys won right then, even though technically it took you a few extra turns. On to the next game!
I was expecting drkillitz69 to give you the results to this game since he was our host, but he told me that he was preoccupied. Anyways, the allies won game 2b.
allies win!

and we're off!
Am I the only one that is glad DocBrown and Humphrse don't have wins yet?
Those two, and Jester (when he sends in turns), seem to me to be the best tacticians here.
Haha. Thanks for the compliment. It probably doesn't help my win % that I play Jester in all of my first 5 games. Of the first 4, I haven't ended up on the same team with him yet.
I'll gladly accept the award for "Best Player to not win anything during the tournament". :)
Sort of like my fantasy football team this year. I was the 3rd highest point scorer (out of 12), and never had the high point in any given week, nor did I make the playoffs. After winning the whole thing last year ...
the best here...you just dont know it yet.

Wow I'm on life support and Tigerpiper is extracting my organs for donation already. ;P
Docbrown- I assume this means he's out of the tourney. Does our side forfeit, restart the game with another player, or play this one out?
I think the first option is the most fair- that's the consequence. The second option would be ok, while the third would not be fair at all.
What do you think?
same things happened in 6b with same player
You're playing 6B but you abandoned 5A? Why did you deadbeat 5A if you're still playing? Your going on autopilot after the first few turns handed UK over to Germany without a fight. The Allies were in an excellent position early and now it's uncertain at best with Germany getting UK for free.
Larche didn't deadbeat. He was defending UK constantly, but Germany sent everything he could at UK starting with the first turn. Since the US was focused on the Pacific, he wasn't able to bring naval reinforcements to the Atlantic in time. Russia wasn't able to press Germany hard enough to distract him from the UK. larche played fine. He was the victim of an unexpected German strategy.
I agree. William gets replaced with Ross. If he missed a single turn and started playing again, I'd say play it out. If he deadbeated, I say drop the game and restart it. I'll go ahead and replace his name with our reserve player everywhere. I'd say that our reserve takes over as if he had played as William all along - i.e. he gets William's current score. Does that sound fair?
Just confirmed that Ross is up for this. He has one spot free now and another game that should be ending soon. I'd say just remake the game with Ross instead of William and we'll ignore the current version of it.
Also, what happened in game 4B? Did William finish it up, or is it far enough along to call it for one side or the other even without William?
Is it just 6B? I will send out the invites for a new game once I have confirmation that this is the first game in the queue that needs to be restarted.
I'm just waiting to hear about 4B.
He played, missed a round, played a round, and looks like he is going to miss this round ...
I'd say its far enough along for this to be an allied win. Too many missed turns etc. but the allies were likely going to win this even without missed turns.
