Hex map - anyone won one?

I've only played one Hex map and, although we managed to get down from 5 players to 2, it timed out at 100 turns.

I don't think that's happened to me on any other map.  So was it just our game, or does everyone else find that their games reach or approach the turn limit?

I only recently started playing on the hex maps. I think the maps are a bit too big, honestly. Moving only 2 spaces per turn...it just takes a few dozen turns to actually move a large amount of troops over the map (Taking into the account of enemy subs sinking your transports D;). I think the land masses themselves should be bigger o.o

But the games are long, yeah.

i have won 3 of 4 and they dont always go that long.one only lasted 4 turns due to a nice lil sneaky and lucky move in a heads up game.the fourth one will def. go to 100 turnss though.oh yeah..the game i am in with kris is #5

and it should finish without timing out. This map has interesting dynamics and is a nice change of pace. I like the spacing/size but it does take a few turns to aclimate to it's layout.

you can see them coming giving you a few turns to prepare

More than a few if you're willing to throw subs at the problem :) .

When I first started on the Hex map, I liked the idea of not allowing factories to be built and possibly lowing the income of the capital islands to a more normal 6-10.

Having played one through, not sure about that.  But it would certainly lead to shorter games :) .

I've won a couple multi-player and a HU one.  Our game Bromley was the only one that I've played so far that went the full 100 years... but they do take longer on average than the other maps, which I'm sure is because the capitals are more isolated and defensive barriers much harder to break down.   Personally I like this map, definitely some new dynamics involved which require new, unique strategies.  I find it fresh and challenging.

The Hex map is too slowly... 2086 and we are the 5 started players

I'm telling you guys that a ww1 map like in the game diplomacy, would be friken genius in this game!!!!(admin if your reading this, then plz consider)

and it was just too boring. It was 2050 and we were all just massing forces. I set my turn to auto at that point. If it's possible, the developers need to make it so that ships and whatnot can move more than their usual number of turns (battleships should be able to go four spaces or whatnot).

However if you're a patient person (I am  not), I can see the appeal of the game as is.

TY for that, I won that game in 2057 once I didn't have to worry about an attack from you any more. :)

The reason the massing forces thing tends to happen more often on this map is because it's easier to build island defenses than it is to build island assault units.  It's not just a matter of producing a stack of land units and rolling, you have to produce the transports to get them there too, which takes time.  Not to mention having adequate defenses for those transports en route.  Which means more time and $ for the enemy to properly prepare.   The nature of this map makes managing your resources well a critical factor imo.

One is a five player and the other a 1v1... Guess I'll see how it goes.
The 1v1 busted out hostilities right from the start and is kind of
freaky, while the five player* is only a little more reserved the first
couple turns. The Five Player is also tougher to decide on a Capital
with with so many initial exposed vulnerabilities and orphaned
resources that will be eliminated early on.

* InGeneral is one of the five

I get *why* it's necessary to do those things; I just got tired of waiting around to do it. If you're with some people who take a while to complete their turns (and hey, I understand how that can happen--life gets hectic), it just gets pretty boring to be honest. That's all I was saying. We're all putting in our two cents, right? Still, I reiterate my opinion that sea units should to be able to move further than two spots in the HA maps.
