I thought we understood how the kill priority thing worked. Okay, sure, I could never be certain whether it was going to allocate hits to empty transports or subs, but I was certain that loaded transports had the load added to their cost. Therefore, at 40-50, they'd always get picked last.
But I've just seen a battle where 1 sub fought 1 fighter (30) and 1 transport (inf+tank or AA = 45). The sub and the transport died.
Not all that important, but it might be worth knowing. It's possible that it had something to do with the fighter landing elsewhere after the battle.
Pretty sure a sub cannot hurt a fighter ..

Another case of me getting it totally wrong:
"Submarines can only attack forces that are in or on the water. This makes them vulnerable and unable to retaliate against aircraft."
against 2 empty transports, my force was 2 transports (one with 2 troops) a fighter and a sub. I lost the sub and they suffered no casualties.
HOLY ISH! That is why they suck so bad in Navy battles with Carriers/Planes....
Finally I understand why Subs are so bad...
I LOVE SUBS!!!
Against an air force they are kinda bad though, yeah. :)
In certain instances, their inability to hit air makes them excellent units - Bromley's situation is a case in point. Since they can't hit air, they can sometimes be used to take out carriers (taking out one of those that was the landing spot for a pair of fighters makes for a really fun turn!) or loaded transports.
I think the game randomly allocates between unloaded transports & subs.
Just had a battle. I had 9 subs, 9 transports (all unloaded prior to this turn). I lost 6 transports & 1 sub. Seems pretty random :) .
hmmm...Bromley, currently you're the number one player. cool. so maybe in this case, lack of knowledge was bliss? appears that sometimes, not knowing your own weaknesses can be a good thing!
Were Planes involved? Perhaps the planes Planes vs Subs rule applies to this encounter?
Would need more testing on this, but I presume an unloaded transport is worth less than a Sub when it comes to losing casulties. Simply because the lower attack value. I thought it was determined earlier that the lower attack values (when dealing with Ties income-wise) was lost first?
Planes were involved, but do planes automatically target subs? Or do they just generate hits like everything else (well, except subs as we now know!) that are then applies to the cheapest targets first?
Still, either something was specifically targeting those subs or there's some target allocation that doesn't automatically rank subs as more valuable than transports.
