Indian Ocean Doubles Tournament - Results

docbrown's picture

FORMAT

Each pairing will be best 2 of 3 games.  The first two games will be on
the Indian Ocean map with 2 teams, 1 infantry per
territory, default settings for factories and elimination (no preset factories, factory automatically added to capital, and must retake capital within 1 turn), and distributed nation picking.  In the pairing, each team should be team A once and
team B once.  If the teams split the two games, they will have a tie
breaker on the Standard World map with the same settings.  The higher
ranked team will be team A.  Any game in which a player deadbeats will
be counted as a loss for the team with the deadbeating player.

I got the info to join the first game, and once I put the numbers in and click join game it registers me and puts me as "random team" without giving me the option of choosing a side.  This is probably due to the fact that the site didn't have the ability to choose your team when first started.

As much as I hate to say it, I don't see how this tourny is going to work unless the site developers make a change to it fast.  Given their response time in the past I just don't see that happening.

clemsafe's picture

I dont think it's a problem with the site. The game has not been set properly.

I've played numerous games wher i could choose my team.

Check with the Tigerpiper.

docbrown's picture

Tashen is right.  I think you can choose teams in public games, just not in private ones.  I'll get in touch with the admins to see if this can be fixed.  For now the tournament is off.

InGeneral's picture

Hopefully the admin can fix this for us. :)

jay7a2j's picture

Lack! Fix this!

sorry wrong site.....

clemsafe's picture

Sorry Tashen, didnt double check before writing.

I was so impatient to start the tournament that i didnt bare any obstacle.

It's costing me so much to leave two empty slot ;)

oVo's picture

so can we work around this glitch, play with the format a bit and make holding 3 Caps the win factor or something? Could still be interesting.

docbrown's picture

I thought about something along those lines.  Another option was to just keep making the games over and over until the team assignments turn out correctly.  Unfortunately, I think either option is going to be a fiasco.  We'll end up having problems with deadbeats or allies attacking each other.  Newer players on the site won't have nearly as much fun.  I figured we'd at least wait a few days and see if there is any response from the admins before deciding what to do next.

j35t3r's picture

Perhaps while we wait an FFA Tourny could be worked on.

4-player Indian Ocean, no assigned teams (but in game truces are more than welcome), winner moves onto next round, losers drop (or we can use bracket like you're trying).

With 4 player games it works out perfect, 4 games round one, 2 games round 2, 1 game round 3.

Gonna be intense! Set it up!

Tashen's picture

Looks like we can run this tourny now.  We just need to make sure everyone is still interested and wanting to do it.

I know I am ready!

Rommel's picture

Ready too, I currently have 1 open slot, will have a second slot soon enough.

InGeneral's picture

This tournament will be a go!  Doc will be starting this back up in a few days, maybe a week, after things settle down for him.

If everyone signed up would confirm their interest to continue here, that would be helpful when doc's ready to roll.

drkillitz69's picture

lets do this.

Tigerpiper's picture

Tashen, ignore the talk about how bad I normally play the Indian Ocean games. It was all a set up to dominate this tournament.

GooseJuice's picture

prepare for glory

clemsafe's picture

Ready.

dalmo's picture

This play is consuming much my time, I am trying to give a pause. Obliged by the notice.

Not in the starting roster, but I can fill in

docbrown's picture

This thing is under way!  I sent messages to drkillitz69, TigerPiper, and kdlover7 asking them to create the games for the first round.  Other teams currently have a first round bye.  However, we'll accept additional players until all first round games are completed.  New teams will be immediately assigned the next lower seeding, which will result in an additional team losing the first round bye.  Let me know if you want in, but it would be best if new players can bring in a teammate with them.

drkillitz69's picture

invites sent out for game 1 of matchup 3

Tigerpiper's picture

Matchup 2 game 1 looking like an upset. Doh.

docbrown's picture

Burg would like to play but needs a partner.  Anyone else interested in joining in?

docbrown's picture

dannykeat is joining the tournament on Burg's team, so we'll have an additional 1st round matchup.   It looks like jDizdul and fatshoe lose their 1st round bye!

I sent a message to fatshoe asking if he would create the games for matchup #4.

How are the rest of the games going?

fatshoe's picture

I have created the games and invited the players

Tashen's picture

our two games are both in progress and going well, I expect they will be completed within the next week.

Tigerpiper's picture

Tashen/Tigerpiper win Matchup 2 by the score of 2-0.

docbrown's picture

Sounds good.  I updated the bracket, so you can take a peek at who you should expect to meet once we start the round 2 matchups.  Hopefully we'll get some results on the other 3 round 1 matchups soon.

larche1976's picture

No it doesn't sound good...

docbrown's picture

Heh.  Fair enough.  I meant it sounds good to get some game results!

fatshoe's picture

1st round Match-up 4 is in the tie breaker standard world

MJOLNIR's picture

matchup 1 hasn't even started yet cuz kdlover7 hasn't signed up for either game. so now i've got 2 of 10 possible games i could be playing just sitting, waiting for players for the last month.

Tigerpiper's picture

I'm glad Tashen and I defeated notorious truce breaker Larche in match 2.

docbrown's picture

Ok.  Thanks for the update Mjolnir.  I sent kdlover a message.  We'll give him 48 hours and if he doesn't join we'll drop him and get a sub.  Harvath was willing to be a substitute if things went bad, so he should be able to step in.  Or, if kdl doesn't get back to us, you're welcome to try to get someone else to become your teammate.  Check out who is playing in your current games that isn't currently registered for the tournament.

fatshoe's picture

we lost in the tiebreaker

docbrown's picture

kdlover is out of the tournament.  Working on a sub now.

Burg's picture

Good games, Fatshoe and jDiz. Thanks for the fun. Still finishing off jDiz in the tie-breaker, but he is clearly up against insurmountable odds now.

The two India Ocean games were incredibly lopsided, one each way. Setup really favored one team each time, and I have to say that the beatdown we received in our losing effort was the worst non-deadbeating-related beatdown I've had the misfortune to experience. :-)

Tiebreaker was  a crazy game with closely packed capitals that saw all 4 capitals seriously invaded at one point or another. Could have turned on the dice at several points.

Oh, and for docbrown: I guess Danny and I lack a combined score because we were the last team to sign up? Right now our combined score is 23335 and hasn't moved much at all since the start of the tournament.

Game on,

Burg

docbrown's picture

Burg: Exactly right.  You guys signed up after I had already set up the brackets, so you guys were placed underneath the teams I had slotted earlier on.  Technically, some of those rankings are no longer accurate, since we're working on our second substitute now!

To everyone else:  Sorry things are slow right now.   If you want to complain, be sure to go flame kdlover since he spent 3 weeks not responding to the game invitations!  I think once we have a confirmed substitute for kdlover and get the Matchup 1 under way, I'll go ahead and close sign-ups and get the next set of match-ups started.  InGeneral and I will be stuck a bit behind everyone else, since we'll have to wait on the Matchup 1 results, but we'll live.

drkillitz69's picture

i wonder if those of us that are ready can get underway, such as bromley and co. and our team..

InGeneral's picture

"InGeneral and I will be stuck a bit behind everyone else, since we'll
have to wait on the Matchup 1 results, but we'll live."

That works out ok actually... I won a seat to the wsop main event last night so I'll be out of town from July 4 - July 12 at least, with minimal internet access.  Tell the new matchup 1 guys to take their time. lol

Bromley86's picture

>If you want to complain, be sure to go flame kdlover since he spent 3
weeks not responding to the game invitations!

Just had a laugh when I saw kdlover7 signed up for a public IO game, so it looks like he was spoiling when he joined the tourney.

Still, that's what block lists are for :) .

docbrown's picture

Harvath never got back to me, but nguyendinhnam has agreed to step in.  Once Ross confirms that those games have started, I'll get the next set of matchups put together.

Tigerpiper's picture

Round two about to begin for Team Tashen/Tigerpiper (TTTP). Wish us luck, and stay posted for updates!

Tigerpiper's picture

Ngyendinhnam, confirm or deny you've already negotiated a NAP with the other side in your tourney match.

nguyendinhnam's picture

I don't understand what you mean. I haven't joined any battleforces tourney before.

docbrown's picture

Haha.  TigerPiper is just teasing you.  Did your games get underway yet?

oVo's picture

Is it time for Matchup 2?

(1) docbrown/ingeneral vs game 2 winner (8 or 9)

(2) Bromley/GooseJuice vs (7) oVo/drkillitz

(3) Barka/peavybob vs (6) Tashen/TigerPiper

(4) Clemsafe/Minoleg vs (12) Burg/dannykeat

Also... just curious why so many byes? It seems most of these teams could have competed in Matchup 1.

http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=364622

docbrown's picture

Yes.  I finally have confirmation that at least one of the matchup 1 games is under way.  Sorry for the long delay sorting that out.  I posted the next set of matchups and I'll send out PMs in just a minute.  From Tigerpiper's post, it sounded like he got theirs started already.  From here on, I'll go ahead and update the brackets and get the next set of games set up as soon as the appropriate teams are ready.

As for the number of byes, we had 12 teams to start off.  If everyone plays an initial game, we drop to 6 and then to 3 in the winner's bracket.  Then you have to figure out how to deal with a 3-team situation (and factor in the people progressing up from the loser's bracket).  The easy answer is to set up everything on a multiple of 2 basis.  If we had 8 or 16 teams, everyone would have played in round 1.  With 12, we set up the bracket as if we had 16, but the 4 highest seeded teams don't have an opponent, so they get byes.  Note also that with exactly 12 teams, the 4 first round losers all get a second round bye in the loser's bracket but will all have opponents in the second round over there.

Harvath's picture

Apologies to all concerned.  I agreed to be a sub, but things took too long to get underway and I forgot to tell doc that I would be unable to play (3 weeks on staff at Boy Scout camp plays hell with your internet obligations).  Hope things turned out all right.

docbrown's picture

No problem Harvath.  When I didn't hear from you in a couple days, I figured you were away.  I think kdlover was the real hang up since he didn't let us know for a full month that he wasn't intending to continue in the tournament.  But it worked out.
