First round, Britain and I (USA) invaded Indochina from China and India. The game didn't recognize our forces' invasion (which can be seen in how the replay doesn't state that an invasion happened despite our pieces moving), Japan landed planes into Indochina which will make our engagement next round more difficult, and Japan invaded China which made retreat impossible.
Nobody cares, but I felt this should be reported since it shows that the game's programming is broken.
Were there any Japanese units still there? My guess would be that neither attackers nor defenders scored any hits (it happens every now and then), so there was no action to report for that zone. I think you only get an event notification if at least one side loses a unit or if the territory is captured.
I'm not saying that it isn't down to human error, but the game does tell you when you invade (even if you just fly over a territory, IIRC).
So if he can see his units moving into Indochina but no invasion note in the events log, then there's a problem.
There should be an invasion notice in the first part of the log, then casualty notices 2nd (and no notices for this if there are no casualties). I would guess he was looking for the casualties notice and didn't notice the invasion notice, which you may not notice at the top of the notice.
