Is this a bug or did I do something wrong?

I set up an axis and allies team game using the default map except I chose to be germany.  Now I recently conquered britain's capital and the troops and countries....they are not disappearing...isn't it a default setting in A+A that once a capital is conquered if not taken back the next turn they lose everything? I COULD REALLY USE THOSE TROOPS GOING AWAY LOL.

I think its a bug.I've had this happen to me in games against the ai on the world map and on the africa map.I take a capital and then turn after turn, they are still there! the most it ever lasted was 3 turns, then they disappeared.

It's not a bug, just a setting.  The default before was elimination like you describe.  The default now is that forces persist until destroyed, but players w/o capitals do recieve income.  You can still set it up for instant elimination, you just have to check the box for it when you set up the game.

Not in the case im describing. I choose africa or standard world and play against the computer and occaisionally it happens... I'll capture a capital and then the enemies troops in other areas still live for up to three turns.

Were they attacking their capital?  It's always been the case that if they attacked their capital this turn and if any of those units survived (including any air that landed elsewhere), then they are not eliminated.

I captured their capital and they still lived in several other areas for up to 3 turns afterwards. NONE of their forces were counter-attacking their captured capital.

Just to clarify, in the OP's case it definitely was a game setting (as Harvath said, although I suspect he meant "do not receive income").

I've no explanation for what you've seen KDD.

On a related note, as I found to my horror in a MP game, you have to attack and take the capital for the elimination timer to start.  I attacked it at the same time as someone else, so although the owner lost it (it went grey), the timer didn't start.

is that me you are talking about..cause it wasnt just to your horror... i have redirected about 12 troops to help deal with those rampaging russian (without a capital)tanks.it is just sick.read the fine print ladies and gents...

Nope, this was in a game with elimination turned on.  Tigerpiper saw that I was going to kill off his (unofficial) ally Talina and attacked his capital just before I took it.

So Talina lost his capital, but as the battle continued, neither TP nor myself actually took possession of it.  Talina didn't attack it the next turn and yet he still didn't die.

Real shame, because my (unofficial) ally Clem was burning through his forces pinning Talina's much larger army, with the hope that it would just disappear
