We just tested this in the team experiment game. I don't remember the exact statistics, but we proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the ally's units use defensive statistics and kills are randomly distributed between allies. Within your personal forces, kills are prioritized as normal, but if you are assigned 3 hits, you lose 3 units regardless of what your ally has there.
I disagree. The US or UK could surge massive numbers of fighters into Russia with virtually no risk, making it impossible for Germany to make any progress. It would badly tilt things in favor of the allies. If they want to go into line alongside the Russians, they have to get there on the ground.
I think if it's in your allie's territory then they get the defense advantage and your units take all the fire...
