Happy Year of the Rabbit everyone,
Try to avoid running over any fluffy animals with your tanks this year.
While many players have enjoyed the random maps, most still wanted more control on the customization. Well now you have it.
Players may now fully customize all aspects of their maps, such as which hexes make up the zones, zone names, toggle between land and water, adjust income and change starting forces. Check out the new My Maps page from the side menu after logging in. Start with a random map and customize away!
We are looking forward to some very interesting worlds being created. As always, please let us know how it works out for you.
A quick thank you to everyone who liked the new BATTLE FORCES facebook page.
See you on the battlefield,
The BATTLE FORCES Team.
awesome! I will start work on HolbrookLandia right away.
Awesome! Thanks for the new options. Two more options and the map maker will be perfect:
selecting the amount of units doesn't work for me. i keep on getting an error that the map is invalid. another problem is that the map editing option is very user unfriendly and time consuming. i still would really like to see some new maps added such as large map of Europe and maybe some new scenarios such as WWI. anyways that's my $0.02
of course i really appreciate all new updates. i will try to play more with this new feature and let you guys know how it works for me.
I'm lazy or busy or slow. Anyway I wish I could browse and use some of the other players custom maps I've played on.
Maybe a save feature when I'm playing a map could create a pointer to the custom map under "my maps"? Or players could publish maps and they could be accessible to other players?
I agree that the map editting is quite time consuming. Perhaps being able to have a blank map and then filling out the territories with the numbers that you click on? The only way to create a territory is by clicking on a territory beside it, I think you should just be able to click on a territory and then click where you want to put it. Also are navy unit placements gonna come in? Regardless I have to commend you on you work admin, keep it up : )
OOHH, I like the World War 1 scenario. I also don't think it would be too much trouble to set up two or three other Standard World scenarios with different starting forces. It would be random which one comes up and it would make heads-up games much more interesting.
yes, developers could make a bunch of scenarios on already existing map such as the Standard World Map.
as for the current map creation i have tried creating several maps: 2 small maps (30x30) and 1 large map 50x50. here are my issues with it:
- after working for 2 hours on a huge 50x50 map i got an error message that one or more zones has too many bordering zones and that i must generate another map. this is a killer error message in my opinion as my 2 hours of work got lost.
- saving map takes you back to the map selection menu. this is also problematic as every time that i save i waste 2-3 minutes to go back and forth. while 2 minutes is not a lot but it adds up especially if you want to save your map 10 times or when you keep on getting an error message that makes you reload the map
Are these regular territory type maps, or just building hex territories?
they are all hex.
ok i have created first completly custom map using this new update. i have to say it is quite time consuming but the effects are outstanding. there are also many ways that maps can be tweaked to add special effects and modifications. for example it is possible to make 1 zone have 2 different areas on the map. so for example island A and island B can have the same zone 38 and be connected to each other despite being islands. another nice feature is being able to create one singe zone and connect 40 other zones across the entire map lenth or width - kind of like a highway zone.
hmmm... so you're saying that you can make like a canal territory that both land and naval units can move through. Like having panama be the same territory split by water thus creating the panama canal. keep it up admin.
another cool feature is that custom maps can now be made in such way so there is no corners and everyone is in the center.
I just spent 3 hours making a middle east map, and it turns out its invalid. I even took out the Suez Canal and all the factories to see if that would help. There isnt much else I can change without the map being unrealistic. I wish I was a programmer so I could help.
General Destro has a map in progress. It will take a while, but it is intended for 6 players. It may take a month to fully develop it as Destro has real-world conquests to make each day.
GD is working hard and it will be GD good...
My Cobras will be vindicated!
can you give us hint on some of the features?
It would be a definite plus to be able to see a custom map before joining a game. Takes a lot of trust the way it is now...
It will be a huge map with 200 zones, 140land/60 sea. Its taking a lot of research as it is based on a real region of the world, so I am finding names and trying to work the scale as best as possible with the hexagon system. I'm finding that sometimes scale is abandoned for strategic location and interesting gameplay. As with all maps, it is going to need some game testing.
I'll let you know when it is finished. With a full-time job taking up 60+ hours of my week, I have not had as much time as I would like to work on it. Map-making is a tedious process.
love you admin. Just noticed that you inputed my request for selecting a territory to input. Gonna make some awesome maps. Thanks admin.
Admin help! When I'm making a map, I have seven slots to save it in, but when I set up a game I seem to have ALL the maps that I have made to choose from. So if I have fixed bugs in a map, made changes, and given it the same name, I can't figure which is which when setting up the game. I'd like to have only my seven saved slots to choose from.PS: separate forum for mapmakers would be great.
Stay tuned, new announcement coming.
I built a little map 20 by 30 and it is good but I can't figure out a way to make a nuetral zone is there a way to do that??? If not that would be a good thing to add
>If not that would be a good thing to add
Looks like it's on the To Do list:
